Where does Ho Chi Minh City Metro Line 1 run?

Line 1 (Tuyến Metro số 1) connects Bến Thành in the city center to Suối Tiên (Bến xe Suối Tiên) at the eastern end: 14 stations, 19.7 km, in about 30 minutes. Commercial service began on December 22, 2024. Bến Thành, Opera House, and Ba Son are underground; the other 11 stations are elevated. It is operated by HURC1, the Line 1 operating company set up by Ho Chi Minh City.

The station order is Bến Thành → Opera House (Nhà hát Thành phố) → Ba Son → Văn Thánh Park → Tân Cảng → Thảo Điền → An Phú → Rạch Chiếc → Phước Long → Bình Thái → Thủ Đức → Hi-Tech Park → National University → Suối Tiên Bus Terminal.

How much is the fare and how do I pay?

A single ride costs VND 7,000–20,000 in cash depending on distance, or VND 6,000–19,000 with cashless payment (card or app), which is VND 1,000 cheaper. For travelers, the 1-day ticket at VND 40,000 (unlimited rides that day) and the 3-day ticket at VND 90,000 are the easiest to budget. These fares were set by a city decision in November 2024 and remained unchanged as of March 2026.

There are three ways to pay.

  • Station ticket counter: pay in cash or by bank card, receive a paper ticket with a QR code, and scan it at the gate.
  • Tap a card directly at the gate: bank cards with contactless (EMV) functionality, such as Mastercard and Visa, can be tapped directly. Cards issued in Korea with overseas payment enabled fall into this category. Anonymous prepaid cards that work like a transit card are also issued free at stations.
  • Official app "HCMC Metro HURC": buy single, 1-day, or 3-day tickets in the app and scan the QR code at the gate.

Ho Chi Minh City's free city-bus policy in the second half of 2026 does not apply to the metro.

What are the operating hours?

Under the 2026 timetable, the first train is at 05:00 and the last train is at 22:00 Monday–Thursday and 23:00 Friday–Sunday. Trains run every 5–7 minutes at peak times and every 8–15 minutes otherwise. However, the timetable has been adjusted by season and holiday (reduced service in summer 2026), so check that day's schedule at the station or in the official app before riding. During holidays such as Tết there have been special timetables and free rides.

Which stations do travelers actually get off at?

Three stations are the ones mainly used on tourist routes.

  • Bến Thành: Bến Thành Market, 23/9 Park, and hotels toward Bùi Viện street. The underground station was designed with 6 exits; Exit 3 is right next to Bến Thành Market (Phan Chu Trinh street). For Nguyễn Huệ walking street, take the exit toward Hàm Nghi street and walk.
  • Opera House (Nhà hát Thành phố): Đồng Khởi street, the Municipal Theatre, and the north end of Nguyễn Huệ.
  • An Phú: the Korean residential area around An Phú and Thảo Điền in the former District 2. Korean restaurants and cafes cluster here, making it a good dinner stop.
