Korean Food in Ho Chi Minh City: Korean Neighborhoods and Restaurants
About 90,000 Koreans live in Ho Chi Minh City, and there were 355 Korean restaurants as of 2022. How to choose a Korean restaurant in Phú Mỹ Hưng, An Phú, and the downtown District 1 core, with official statistics and four GayoGayo coupon stores.
Are there really that many Korean restaurants in Ho Chi Minh City?
Yes. In the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs survey of Korean restaurants in 18 cities worldwide, Ho Chi Minh City grew from 239 in 2020 to 355 in 2022, the second-largest increase after Shanghai. The size of the Korean community is behind this. According to the Overseas Koreans Agency's 2025 Status of Overseas Koreans (estimate as of end-2024), 95,790 Koreans live within the jurisdiction of the Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City, 90,043 of them in Ho Chi Minh City itself. Many Korean restaurants are run by Korean residents, so you can expect flavors close to a neighborhood restaurant in Seoul, and Korean-concept chains run by Vietnamese companies are also common.
Where do Koreans live in the city?
Ho Chi Minh City's official newspaper (Tuổi Trẻ) reports that most Koreans live in Phú Mỹ Hưng in Tân Phong ward of the former District 7. Korean restaurants, barbecue places, and grocery stores cluster street by street, so it is known as "Koreatown." Historically, the first Korean street appeared around 1994 on Phạm Văn Hai street in Tân Bình district, and Phú Mỹ Hưng later became the largest Korean area.
- Phú Mỹ Hưng (former District 7): the center of Korean commerce. After the July 2025 administrative reorganization, maps show ward names such as Tân Mỹ and Tân Hưng.
- An Phú and Thảo Điền (former District 2): the area with the most foreign residents; Korean restaurants are increasing around An Phú station on Metro Line 1.
- Downtown District 1: KOTRA's Ho Chi Minh City office notes that District 1 has a wide spread of Korean and Japanese restaurants and chain outlets. It is the Bến Thành and Đồng Khởi area where tourists stay, so it is the easiest to reach.
